First off, get the TransGo, I got the B&M, and I regret it. It kinda tricks your tranny into shifting harder. Not really that great of a setup. But if you're gonna do what I did (work with whatcha got) then here is the following advice.

Get more tranny fluid than the book says. It lies. Get their "advanced" kit, or whatever. Instead of $55, it's $70, and comes with a new filter, saving you the $20 filter and gasket kit. Have a lot of parts cleaner. If you can, do it in the air, if not, try not to do it over a parking lot. Concrete is preferable. Take apart is easy. The valve body is HEAVY. Check the pan for any debris, at all. If there's anything down there, more than just a little around the magnet, look at a rebuild, and if you do a rebuild yourself (or find a super cool shop) get a pro built rebuild kit. Forged hardparts for $482 or so.

After you get the old filter out, cut it apart. And make sure you got the o-ring out. Check for excessive debris. When it says to file down the little posts, more is better than less. Buy a small tank of solvent to clean all of your parts with before reinsertion, cheapest I saw was at checker for $25. DO NOT LOSE THE LITTLE *****! And the hardest part is reinstalling the valve body and hooking the manual valve back up with the linkage from your throttle. Everything else is cake, well, except the boost valve. And even that's not that hard. If you have any questions, just ask.
