Lock up question...Problem
I am not sure if my converter is locking up...SO I tried the deal with the switch in between the 2 connections on the ADLD (Or whatever its called) On my car all that does is blow my gauge fuse..........Ok on my older thirdgens (84, and 86) When you were cruising you could tap on the brake, and the converter would unlock for a short time...You could see the tach go up, and feel it as well.. I even wired a converter lock out that way with a console switch....On my current 89, it does not do that.....How can I tell if the converter is locking up...I cant feel it, and I dont think the milage is as good as it shoud be..........Thanks for any help with this issue, Tom

it problably isnt locking up if you dont feel it. i had that problem with my 88 gta tpi. i just stoped locking up one day. only has 50000 on it also. i started with the tcc selinoid and that was the problem. it was like $40 and very easy to change. just pull the pan down and unscrew 2 bolts. if you have alot of miles on you car, it could also be the torque converter itsself. ohh, and i also had the same problem as you whith the connectors. i would blow the fuse for the gauges. that is better no with the new selinoid.

you can check for lockup the same way look for a couple hundred rpm increase when you lightly hit the brakes. Just about everycar that I have dealt with works the same. GM Ford Mopar and imports.

Yes, I know mine does not change RPM's when you tap the brakes...Oh well rebuild time coming up anyway...Thanks, Tom

not necessarily
should check your brake switch. wiring to the TCC. Make sure the ECM is 'seeing' the command for TCC (it knows you are in 4th gear, also a switch in side the pan) and instead of a complete rebuild the TCC solenoid is replaceable by just dropping the trans pan. Not as major a deal as it might sound. never had to replace one but I would guess for less than 50 bux
rebuild normally doesn't address the TCC
