need help on stall speed

Hey everyone, I'm getting a new 700r4 that should handle the power I have, but I'm needing a new torque converter too. Anyone have any ideas of what would be a good stall speed?

This is my daily driver so I need something that wont fry the tranny, but will give me good performance b/c I intend to take it to cruises and the track over the summer (it hasn't been to the track yet, so I don't have times).

I put everything into desktop dyno (I know its not really that accurate ) the best I could, using flow #'s for heads similar to mine that I found on this site. This is what DD is showing me:

r.p.m hp tq
2000 132 347
2500 161 339
3000 194 340
3500 242 362
4000 292 384
4500 347 404
5000 389 409
5500 424 405
6000 357 312
6500 327 264
7000 296 222

From that I was thinking somewhere around 3000 to 3500? What do you guys think?

thanks
cj

PS Sorry for posting this is general tech, I forgot this was down here!

If you want such a hi stall do you really need a OD trans?

Even the least bit of wet and the best tires will make street driving fun.

For just a bit more then the cost of getting a 700 built for your needs you could drop the OD which youll never use racing and ya wont be drinving unless it nice out... Id get a switch pitch built. No don't go lookin in junk yards for one, gotta have it built for your app. They can do them for any app for not that much more.

I know lots of guys who run them so their "race" cars can be street driving anytime they want and be safe to drive inany conditions.

switch pitch if ya don't know is an old design but awesome.
Lets you do 3000RPM launches when ever ya want or normal 1500 ones.
But has to be built for your app by a proper company. They can make them fit anything and handle all the power you want. Also can change the RPM shift ranges too. Its still an auto but will launch like a stick when you want.

I just put a 9.5" 3600 Street Edge in my 700R4 and it drives pretty much like stock until you get into it. I have heard of great durability with a PI Vigilante. I've heard some good things about Edge also, which is why I bought a Street Edge. Of course, you are going to pay more for a higher quality converter. Expect to pay $500+ for a good one.

I've got a Yank Truck thruster 2,600 rpm torque converter in my Fullsize Van behind my ZZ4 cammed 350 TBI. Even with 3.07 gears driving away from a stop is like stock, its only when you lay into the gas that it leaps off the line. Keep in mind that I tow up to 5,000 lbs as well and have yet to have a problem. Just driving around normally I get 17-18 mpg in mixed driving.

In something that does not weigh 6,000 lbs, I see no problem with a tight 3,000 rpm stall converter with lockup and a 700r4.

Not really, I have no problem driving in the rain and bet you I could drive in the snow too. Currently running a Street Edge 4,000 stall. Before that I had a 3,000 stall with thousands of miles driven in the rain.
