have a V6/5speed car, swapping in a V8, will the trans work with the new motor?
tried a search, didnt come up with anything
i have an 86' firebird that was originally a V6/5speed car. the original motor is gone, and i have a complete LB9 305 waiting to get swapped in. will the V6 5speed trans bolt up to the V8 or would i have to change the bellhousing? will all the hydraulics work also? if not, what would have to be changed?
thanks in advance

All '83-'92 V6 T5s have a 14 spline input, all V8 F-body's have a 26 spline input, the '93 3.4L V6 also used a 26 spline input. They can be adapted.
Bolt hole patern in the bellhousing is different too, need to swap that with a V8 bellhousing. The V6 (2.8 and 3.1) engine is a 60 degree V, the V8 Engine is a 90 degree V.

Yep, the transmission itself is essentially the same. But the input shaft and bellhousing are different. But the swap is do-able.

so alls i need would be a V8 bellhousing? but id have to retain the V6 clutch/pressure plate setup, correct? what about the flywheel?
and does anyone know if the hydraulics are the same? would the V6 slave cylinder work?

The V6 hydraulics are identical to the V8 setup. The biggest problem with this swap is the V6 clutch setup is too weak for a V8, and very prone to excessive slippage when used with a V8. The gear ratios in the V6 trans are also less than ideal for use behind a V8. They have a really steep first gear, and the rest of the gears have a really wide ratio spread. It's a totally doable swap, but less than ideal. You'd be WAY happier with a V8 T5. As far as the flywheel, I'm almost sure you'll have to use a V8 one. I don't think the bolt pattern is the same on the V6 one.
