transmission popping when flooring it

The past 3 times i have put the pedal to the floor from a dead stop, my transmission pops really loudly between 1st and 2nd gear. The popping is right under the middle consol. Will this get worse? And is the only way to fix this to get a new tranny?

it isnt just twisting and hitting your floor is it....like from a broken or worn out tranny mount....mine used to bang my floor all the time.

That sounds like it could be the problem. Is it bad for the tranny if i dont get new mounts?

To check if its broken put a jack under the tranny or some other means of slightly lifting it and see if the mount separates. If it is indeed broken you definitely want to get a new mount. Your tranny is literally flopping around under the car and slamming into the tunnel on shifts. Not the end of the world, but not good either and now that you know about it I would stop driving the car until its fixed just as a precaution. I suggest a polyurethane mount because replacement rubber mounts are weak. Its pretty easy to change too.

Re: transmission popping when flooring it

I got a second to look under the car just before it got dark earlier and saw that the transmission mount is there but the rubber is in a u shape. Where the middle is dug out, but both sides are still facing upward on the tranny and those sides dont look like they are in too bad of condition. I havnt lifted the tranny up any with a jack yet to see if the mount is loose or not but i assume its not because it is still in the correct position. So, is it bad that the mount has this u shape to it and is it worth replacing? Also, Is there an upper tranny mount that could be the problem? Thanks.

no upper mount. the mount is kind of a U neway...so thats normal. but if just one side is torn....then the tranny may twist up and settle back to where u wouldnt necassarily notice it. Definately try the jack method to see if it seperates.
