Quick question on geras

I have a guy wanting to sell me a posi disc brake rear end, complete with 3.42 gears, said it came out of a trans am..this will fit for my 89 trans am wont it? I have to get a posi rear..cant stand these slow track times with the highway gears I have now..I think they're 2.73.

Re: Quick question on geras

yeah, it'll fit...but do you have disc brakes right now? if not, there is more to it than just swapping the axle assembly..

Re: Quick question on geras

came out of a trans am
Depends on WHAT Trans Am it came out of.

If it's a 82-92, then yes it will fit, and all you'll have to worry about is the brake issues. Some disc brake systems require a different master cyl and/or proprtioning valve.

If it's a 81 or earlier rear, then it will NOT fit your car.

If it's a 93-up rear, then it will almost fit; it will bolt in, but will be about 1-5/8" too long on each side, which will prevent your stock wheels from working right. You'll need wheels with the correct offset for 93-up cars. Plus, a few brake issues, as above.
