fittings on side of transmission? got a big leak!
I need some ideas and some help.
the fittings that go on the side of the trans that the 2 hard lines screw into...Im pretty sure that the one on the bottom is striped out both the fitting on the side of the trans and the hard line fitting...or one or the other cause I have trans fluid spewing out the fitting. I tried wrenching it it down tighter but that didnt help.
where can I get a replacement fitting for the side? and how would I fab up some kind of hardline that screws into it? I guess I need to cut the hard line to get that one fitting thats connected to it off. So once I cut it off how would I got about putting it all back together? I read on a search that rubber lines seems to leak.
Im thinking of somehow replacing the fitting on the side of the trans which is easy and then getting a peice of hard line with the correct fitting and screw it into the side fitting...but that would leave me with the other end without a fitting.....2 actually, the original and the one that I put on...how would I connect the 2 line together?
sorry for rambling on...its seems I repeated the same stuff over and over...
what is the fitting on the side called and size?
what is the fitting on hard line called and size?
thanks!

The fitting on the side of the trans doesn't "go bad". I wouldn't worry about that one.
More likely, the line is cracked, broken, bent, etc. such that it doesn't seal to the fitting.
It is 5/16" inverted flare. You can get a little piece of line that size at the parts store, along with a compression fitting; bend the new little piece of line to the rigt shape; and cut the old line and use the compression fitting to "union" them together. Put a little pipe thread sealer under the ferrules as you assenble the compression thing.

Same thing happened to my lines. I replaced the hard lines with rubber and had no issues for over a year before I parked it and began the rebuild process. I got the fittings at Advance Auto since I used to work there. I believe I looked them up as transmission connectors..? I can't remember. Easiest way I fixed them was by lowering the tranny as far as it could go so I could have a decent amount of room to work. Like sofakingdom said, put thread sealant on the fittings to make a nice tight fit.
