Hi guys, I need my 700R4 to shift in drive at 6000 honest rpms. Is there just one governor for all 4 gears? Where is it located? Does anyone make a 6k governor? I have only changed governors in 727 chrysler 3 speed autos, and it was just one piston assembly in the tail of the trans, didn't have to take much apart to swap it out.

You'll probably need to buy a Transgo 2-3 shift kit and a governor recalibration kit to accomplish 6K shifts. The highest stock governor I know of is the Vette one, which is supposed to shift at 5.5K. You'll have to play around with different size springs and weights in the governor assembly to get a 6K shift. The Transgo kits also come with several sets of springs for the governor, and several different springs for each of the valve body pistons so you can custom tailor your shift points. Your best bet would be to get in touch with Dana at 700r4/4L60E.com. (Pro Built Automatics here on the boards). He's very knowledgeable when it comes to adjusting the shift points for a custom application.

Yeah, I've tried to PM him before, and never gotten a response back. I called him on the phone though, and he answered on my first try, so you probably ought to call him instead. He was a ton of help when I called him. I had some questions about a Transgo shift kit, and he filled my little head with more info than I could digest! I shoud've recorded the call because I had to scribble down notes like mad trying to keep up with everything he told me. Lol.

 

I had to change one spring to get my governor to shift at 6000+ rpm. I got the B&M governor kit. Right now with my latest build it shifts at 6100 rpm in first and around 5700 for the 2-3shift.

So for best 1/4 mile times I will be going to the 4L60E later this year. I need the transmission to shift in the 6200 to 6300rpm range.

 

89 gta, thanks. Your shift points would probably be close enough for me. Was that making out the b&m governor kit, or were there springs that let the shift points go even higher?

Order a governor from the chevy dealer that fits a 1993 corvette. It will allow approx 5800-6000 shifts right out of the box. $40 is the price. If you need it,
I could get the part number.
