I'm in the process of purchasing a 92 Z28 that needs a transmission. This is going to be a project/driver for now. I would rather find a used trans for now instead of an expensive new one. What year model 700r4's will work or will all of them from a V8 work? I think the 92's have the electric speedo, does this create problems?

 

I have a 700r4 that i am taing out of my 92 Z28 if ur interested. I'm in NE Oklahoma..

 

'88 to '93 700R4's/4L60's from V8 f-bodies are supposed to be the same. You can use any of those. The speedo sensor is the same size whether its a cable or electronic, so you can swap one for the other. If you get one from a car that had different rear end gears than yours, you'll have to change the speedo gears inside it for the ones inside yours.
700R4's from other vehicles will not have the correct tailshaft to mount your torque arm, but I heard (I'm not sure) that you can easly swap your tailshaft onto it. Also, the governor (weights inside that tell the trans when to shift) will be wrong, but I think they're easilly swapped too.

 

I live in VA so shipping a tranny is kind of out of the question, but thanks. I appreciate the other infor as well, because I have to possible donors at the moment. A 87 Z28 and a 90 RS V8 car.
