Rebuilt 700r worked gr8 for 5mins..

So I went and picked up a rebuilt 700r4 I found on craigslist went through the entire tranny to verify it and it was completely rebuilt. Last nite put it in filled it up put it up in the air let it run through the gears to get it up to temperature. Adding fluiding till it was properly full so I thought. Took it for a test drive and it drove fine, parked it and there was a huge puddle of fluid from the trans under the car, apprently I over filled it, ok no big deal I have a drain plug on the pan, now this morning I go to move it reverse is fine, and it will only stay in 1st now.. Can over filling the tranny cause this im pulling my hair out with this car seems nothing ever goes smoothly... HELP!

Typically, when a 700R4 only has 1st & reverse it is from the governor gear stripping. With out the governor the trans won't upshift. It could be that or the governor is sticking. In any case that is where I would start.

The boost valve could have blown out from having the snap ring in the wrong location. But in this case the engine needs to be rev'd up for the car to move. If it moves at all.

As stated the gov being stuck is a possibility however also the THROTTLE VALVE in the valve body may be stuck which is a common problem with the 700R4 would also give the appearance of no upshift since the trans would only make a shift at very high speeds and rpm

The GOV you just remove the dome looking cover right at rear of trand. The TV you have to pull the pan and valve body but not the trans.

haha fixed it!!! my tv cable was toasted!! but encountered another problem... it is leaking fluid pretty badly only when i turn the car off though.. with it running no leaks @ all. i think its coming from the dipstick tube actualy but not completely sure. when i add fluid also it just poors right out.. is there a dipstick tube gasket or groumet?
