No acceleration?? 3.23 gear a problem?
No acceleration?? 3.23 gear a problem?
alrighty,
i got an 82 trans am, 427 bigblock chevy solid roller, cam specs at .660/.666" 254/260 @.050, victor jr. oval port intake, large oval port factory iron closed chamber heads (2.19/1.88 valves) 10.0-1 compression, 3000 stall converter, holley 750 hp carb... th350 trans, OK.. I can stab it from a dead stop, it will spin both tires a little and accelerate fairly quick, but it seems slow to me, some who say its bad.. I bought a 4.10 gearset, and havent had it put in yet, will I notice a big difference in acceleration stepping up to a 4:10? or just a little change?? The cam card even says needs low gearS? I plan on running it friday night, hopefully get the gear in it this week, I want to see mid 11s. should be possible, but the way it feels now, maybe 12.80s??? any help would be awsome!
i just need to build a 496 dont i??

The BBC with the specs should bring you out of the hole even with the 3.23 rear gear.I had a '70 SS454 Monte Carlo with a .030 454 with less cam lift but similar timing and less stall 2800rpm other wise the same(even oval port heads 2.19/188 valve ported and 3 angle). Is she bogging any off the line? This is in a car at leats 900lbs heavier than your T/A and she would lauch hard with a 2.56 gear behind a manual valve body TH400.With that kind of lift and the stall deeper gears would solve your problem but i hope you have subframe connectors already and possible lower control arm relocation brackets.

Cool, I hope so.. ya it got SFC, tubular lower control arm, spohn adjustable torque arm with trans x member and adjustable panhard rod.. does the suspension on these cars work well? i got lakewood 90/10s upfront with new stock springs, and the front of the car comes up quite abit, Im thinking with the weight transfer and the high gear is cauing most of my problem, now if i stall it up to about 2500 and stab it, she'll be all over the road, but as far as just stabbing it and running it on out, the car dont pull hard until 3500 rpm. but, if im doing about 20, i can slam it back to first and stab it and the car hauls @$$... I hope the gear helps.

I can't understand your combination being slow even with 3.23 gears. Yes 4.10's will make a huge difference in acceleration, but I would double check everything to make sure there isn't some other issue like lazy timing or something.
