Okay, I just did a B&M shift improver kit (stage 2) on my IROC's 700R4 and now it shifts like crap. Let me give you a little history to hopefully fill in any blanks. About 2 months ago I put on a carb spacer under my holley to see what it would do, it made me idle at about 1400 rpm's with the idle screw completely backed off...But it also made my car into a crazy machine, it's an LG4 and it felt damn near like an LS1. It would downshift and take off like it was going out of style. I could be doing 110, and the car would downshift and go crazy! I noticed my shifts were harder but not necessarily quicker. Anyways, I put on the shift kit this weekend, I had a pro helping, so to the best of my knowledge, everything was done right. Now the car is back to shifting a little worse than it did before the carb spacer. 1 to 2 is very quick but no squeal (I can barely feel it), 2 to 3 it revs up a little just before the shift, and I don't think I'm getting out of 3rd in OD? At 50mph I am sitting at 4000rpm. My car dosen't have an ECM anymore, no emissions, and I reset the tv cable after the kit, I don't know if that does anything with no ECM though? I'm not a tranny guy here, I'm a motor guy, can anyone please help?? I feel like i'm driving an escort instead of an IROC!!

 

any mods to the valve body in the transmission and you had better know what you are doing. sounds like the valve body got a not so good "tune up" with the shift kit.

 

I've done some research on this throughout the morning and I have a theory: When I put on the carb spacer it may have stretched out the TV cable...after installing the shift kit, I reset the cable. It may be possible that the cable is at fault for this problem. I pulled the cable tighter and put a zip tie on it to stretch it out a little...I'm going to test drive real quick and post the results...

 

Okay, I was doing 85 in third gear...the car will not catch 4th. It felt like she had some more pickup though, maybe? I started with one ziptie to stretch the cable, didn't seem to make a difference. I added another, meaning the cable was about 1/2" tighter at the carb. When I press on the gas, it won't go all the way to the floor because of the tv cable being too tight, and the car dosen't want to up shift until way into the red line. My gauge isn't accurate, if I was guessing I would say about 6000 rpm and it wouldn't go to 4th. 1,2,3 seemed to shift around 5000 to 5500. I'm lost here, the shift kit seems to be doing what it is supposed to do, it sounds like it's going to shift and then revs up another 500rpm before doing so...something else has to be going on? My Father helped me put on the shift kit and he was an nhra drag mech for years...rebuilt and built many tranny's...he looked at the diagrams and instructions again and assured me that everything was done right. This sucks, I'm going to have to start driving me Jeep I guess...
