linkage HELP????

linkage HELP????
Well I put a new shift linkage cable on my car cause the old one broke when taking the trans out 
when I rebuilt the engine. Well after I put the new one in and adj. the slide all the way back in the slot when I go to put the car in park it wont go its like the cable it about 1/2 in. to short. what can I do to fix this?
