Can anyone help with an old GM part number?
I'm looking at buying a used rear end from an '89 IROC that's supposed to be a 1LE but the seller can't confirm the ratio. He did supply a part number but it's not coming up anywhere as a good number. Number is 22522676, if anyone can let me know exactly what axle this is I'd appreciate it greatly.

That's the casting # for the center section of the 10-bolt for one of these cars.
That's all it tells you. Doesn't say a thing about what's inside it, what car it came from, when it was made (beyond 82-92), or anything else.
The reason it doesn't "come up", is that you can't buy just that piece, without the tubes welded into it and all that. Except as part of some larger assembly, it doesn't exist.

That's what I was afraid of. I asked him to check the tags that would normally be on the diff cover bolts but haven't hearback from him yet.

Tags are worthless too.
Best thing is to LOOK INSIDE.
Count the teeth. That's what gear is in it.
Look at the carrier. Either it is, or it isn't, a posi. Not that it's a real big deal, since the stock posi is an Auburn (yuck) or it may have a Gov-Lock (double yuck) in it. Either way, if you want something good, it'll have to go.
Look at the brakes. Either the calipers are aluminum and both BEHIND the axle, or they're cast iron and one IN FRONT OF the axle and one BEHIND the axle. Aluminum = PBR, the good ones; iron = Saginaw, the garbage ones that basically don't work.
Count the axle splines. They'll be either 26 (89 back) or 28 (89 up). Being sold as an 89, it could have either. The 26-spline ones have MUCH smaller, and therefore
MUCH weaker, axles.
The parts are what they are, and all the codes and tags and part #s in the world are just the LONG WAY AROUND of figuring out what it is.
Doesn't matter that the PO says it's a "1LE". There's no difference between a 1LE rear and a 6-cyl one, beyond the parts you can see. That's a sucker line, like "from a Vette". Next thing you know, we'll be seeing "Vortec" and "police interceptor" rear ends too.

Kinda hard to do with the rear being in NJ and I'm in NC. Also from the pics it may be a 9 bolt and since he's claiming it's from a 1LE car that narrows it down to either a 3.27 or 3.45 if so.

Kinda hard to do
How so?
the pics
You like what you see, you pay him. Otherwise, he doesn't get your money.
Seems pretty simple to me. But then, I'm pretty much a simpleton.
