I bought a 92 Z28 about a year ago and the guy had a 4:10 gear ratio in it. It didn't take me long to realize that this wasn't the gear for me so I drove the summer anyway with the intension that when I put the car away for the winter I'll do a ring and pinion swap. Well I decided to go with a 3:42 and bought a set off E-bay for my 10-bolt and this past week took my rearend housing out because I want to repaint it and make it look pretty before putting it back in the car. When I pulled the cover off I noticed the ring gear was real thick and the one I bought is thin. So the question is do I need a different Carrier or can I buy a spacer to make up the width difference and where can I get one If thats the case? I am taking the whole thing to a reputable shop to have it set up right, I just want to have everything I need when I take it. Thanks!

It does sound like your rear has a 2-series carrier and the "thick" gear in it.

Yes you can use a spacer and the normal gears, instead of either the "thick" gear or replacing the carrier. http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...duct-1782.html I think that's the right one... call before you order.
