formula posi in a v6

my friend has a dead 87 fb formula... and he will sell me the posi out of it, but my question is

will a 87 formula posi fit in a 92 firebird v6 rear end?

will the the axle spline and ring gear line up alright or will i have to take the whole axle? v6 is a 10 bolt.

Re: formula posi in a v6

No,,,For one reason, the axle shaft spline count is different (26 for 1987) & (28 for your 1992). Unless you want to back to 26 spline axle shafts it will work (if the carriers are the same series) for 10-bolt parts are interchangeable. Gear set-up will have to be done over. Or change the whole axle assembly. This looks like a DIY job that going to over most peoples experience.

Re: formula posi in a v6

No.

The Formula almost certainly has a 9-bolt; and the 6-cyl car has a 10-bolt.

No internal parts whatsoever interchange, under any circumstances.

Yeah, of course.

Get the right one; unbolt the one-wheel-squeel carrier, bolt in the other, check backlash. Install cover and fill with fluid. Enjoy.

Re: formula posi in a v6

just change out the whole rear end... its actually pretty easy.. i've done it several times by myself..

so if you and your buddy go at it and have some tools it should be no problem
