Hi everybody, Ive got a 91' RS w/ a 305. The transmission runs strong as long as its moving forward. Reverse is where I've got issues, on level ground the transmission acts like its trying to go in reverse but just slips. I would figure its a cooked tranny, but the odd thing about it though is if a friend shoves the car back or its reversing down a hill, it will go into reverse. Its got plenty of fluid (could use a change ),no leaks, shift cable should be adjusted correctly, and I still got first gear. I'm not sure if there are any vacuum or other lines clogged or broke. Before I completely destroy the transmisison, I'm wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

 

Does the situation get any better when it is warmed up? If it is slipping as you say park where you do not make the problem worse. It does not take long to waste the reverse clutches.
