Help me pick a rear end!
Ok, so right now I have about 400hp, but I am looking to extend that to around 500 in the future. I have 2.73 gears and I am about to throw in a T56, so I will be needing to drop in 4.11s or something.
It will mostly be kept on the street, but I will drag it every now and again.
So my question is, should I beef up my 10 bolt as done in the guide on this website? First, how well will that hold 400hp that is driven hard? How well will it hold 500 hp? Should I just be saving up for a new rear end? What would be recommended for my hp range?
Oh, and look what just happened to my 10 bolt on my 90 truck.

Heh... anyway... any help on this is much appreciated.

on street tires you will be fine if not to big on that back..... otherwise plan to replace it and often.
remember to weld the tubes get the girdle and use a solid pinion spacer.
hell i broke a 3.73 eaton 10 bolt on my dads old 05 colorado too lol..... havent broken 1 yet in a f-body tho......
90 mph brake stands in the rain suddenly catching a dry spot isn't the greatest for axle wrap you could say lol.......

Re: Help me pick a rear end!
full size truck or s-series? S-series is the same rear, a full size has the bigger/better 8.5" 10-bolt.(which it looks to be)
400-500hp? I'd highly recommend saving up for a better diff. I'd go 12-bolt as it'll take less power to pull than a 9" and still be more than up to the task. Our 7.5" 10-bolts are questionable at that level even with all the upgrades. It'd suck to spend almost as much money on it as a bolt-in aftermarket and then break it....

Re: Help me pick a rear end!
Yeah, the truck is a full size, so it was the 8.5. I already have a 14 bolt I am about to throw in for it.
As far as the Camaro though, I guess I will shop around for a 12 bolt. I know some of those 10 bolts have been able to take a lot, but still, some of them haven't taken much at all.
Thanks for the advice guys.
