TH400 Driveshaft
TH400 Driveshaft
I recently switched to a TH400 (short tail shart) and am in need of a driveshaft. Are there any stock ones that will work? I know I will need to change the yoke. Also, can anyone reccomend a place to build one if need be.
Thanks

Re: TH400 Driveshaft
I've had 3 driveshafts built at a local driveline shop over the last 10 years as I've changed transmissions. The first one was expensive because I also purchased 1350 series weld yokes for it. After that is was just a matter or shortening or lengthening. I think the first one was between $300 and $400. After that, less than $200 to change the length and rebalance.
To my knowledge, there are no stock driveshafts that will be a direct fit although some may be close.
You'll need the larger diameter slip yoke for the tranny. Truck transmissions have a bolt on yoke which won't work. Once you find a yoke, slide it all the way into the back of the tranny then pull it back out 1". Measure from the center of the u-joint cap to the center of the u-joint cap on the diff. That's the length of the driveshaft you need.
Since you're building from scratch, I'd get a tranny and diff yoke for 1350 u-joints then get a driveshaft made with the 1350 weld yokes on it.
