Hawks Rear End Question
I Have a 1990 camaro rs with a 305tbi. it currently has a 2.73 one wheel drive rear. i was thinking about purchasing this rear from hawks http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...on=CARTDETAILS
its a posi with 3.42 for only 250$. that dosent sound that bad 2 me. and i kno its drum and i dont really care whether i have disc or not id rather just keep the drum rear(makes the swap alot easier considering i have drum rear already) are there any reasons i shouldnt get this rear? or does anyone else have a rear from hawks? any help would be great thanks

I have no clue what the link is pointing to, so I can't comment on whatever it's supposed to be, specifically.
A rear from Hawks is going to be no different from a rear you get from anybody else that strips wrecked cars. Used parts is used parts.
If it's a drum brake 3.42 posi for $250, it's a good risk, I'd say. Shipping is going to be a mother though, so you better live close to them and be planning on going to pick it up. Otherwise, you'll do better to just be patient and wait for one to appear in your local junkyard. Sooner or later, one will.

thanks 4 the help. i haveny checked any local junkyards yet. wat should i expect 2 pay at a junkyard 4 a posi rear end that'll swap right into my car? wat cars should i be looking 4 a rearend off of?

well if i go to my local junkyard n find some thirdgen camaros how will i kno which ones have posi rear ends? is there a way to tell? did any come with posi and drum brakes? thanks 4 all the help

I swear if you don't start using correct grammar I'm going to scream. holy crap.
in the mean time - do a search. spin one wheel. if the other wheel spins the same direction, you have posi. if you count how many times the wheel turns around as you spin the driveshaft, you'll know the gear ratio. I recommend using a piece of chalk and make a mark, to make it easy to count revolutions. as for drums, maybe some did, I quit paying attention to those details because I got a 4th gen rear. and I like discs better. and let's face it - my car is a classic example of why you can't go by the SPID alone.... I have every option on the car that the original owner deleted, because I added it, I have PBR discs on the rear out of a 96 T/A, as well as 3.42's and posi, I also have a T-5/383... not factory at all. you do realize it's easy to change from drum to discs if you're swapping axles, right? you only need to change, i believe, the e-brake cables. they're $40 for the pair at advance. you're welcome.
