thinking about a moser--- spline ?
So the last piece i need to complete my street/strip machine is gears. but im convinced that my stock rear cannot be built up enough to use slicks at the track. i got searching and i seems that moser is a popular brand for a complete rear. but im confused about splines. how do they affect the rear, i want an extreemly strong 12 bolt but i have no clue what to put in them except for the fact that i want 4 10 gears and posi. if anyone could shed a bit of light id apreciate it

the more splines on an axle, the thicker it is.
31 should be more than enough IMHO

If you go with a strange they come with 33 spline standard. If your going to do any street driving I would get 3.73 better gas mileage

Factory 12 bolt is 30 spline. With aftermarket axles, that's more than strong enough. My car only uses 31 spline axles but I also have a softer launch using a powerglide transmission. The torque multiplication isn't as high as using a 3 speed tranny.
The Moser web site has an axle calculator. You need to know how much torque the engine makes, first gear ratio in the transmission and diff gear ratio. Each axle has a maximum safe limit and each axle should be strong enough to handle all the torque put to it from the calculation so 2 axles will equal 200% strength.
I've had Strange and Moser axles and prefer Moser now.

Re: thinking about a moser--- spline ?
thanks for the replies, im going to stick with a 410 mainly because i dont care about gas mileage.
just found mosers website and ill get looking. say i only need a 30 spline, is it going to hurt anything if i got say a34 spline for future mods? 2500 is alot to have to spend again.

Do you plan on making 1200+ HP? Larger diameter axles are heavy. Although it gives you bragging rights, there's no performance advantage going to a large diameter axle if you don't need them.
