1983 (RS?) transmission linkage issue
1983 (RS?) transmission linkage issue
I'm deciding whether or not to purchase a 1983 Camaro, RS (I've read that they didn't make the RS till 1987, hence my question marks)
But the seller says that is an RS and its a 1983, none-the-less. He says that there is some transmission linkage issues, in that, it has no reverse. I am asking, is this a huge deal? Its a manual transmission, and I've heard that the linkage for those is fairly easy to work on. Could somebody fix this? Or must it be replaced? Thanks for help!

Re: 1983 (RS?) transmission linkage issue
Yeah, let's get that outta the way right off the bat. There's no such thing as a 83 RS. Regarding the linkage, it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Does it have a 4 speed or a 5 speed? If it's a 4 speed, then it has external shift linkage and should be fairly easy to fix. If it's a 5 speed, all the shift linkage is internal, which would mean something is messed up inside the trans. You could always buy a new Hurst shifter w/linkage to replace the factory shifter with. The factory shifter sucks anyways. Just need to figure out whether you have a Saginaw or a Super T10 in there. The Super T10 has reverse gear to the left and up next to 1st gear, the Saginaw has reverse to the right and down next to 4th gear.
