major transmission issue
major transmission issue
Ok so my clutch wasnt grabbing anymore a while back.
I came to find out that the moron that worked on this car before i bought it in december managed to put the rear main seal in completely backwards, causing a bit of a leak, thus fouling the clutch. I just finished yesterday with putting the clutch tranny and everything back in, when i go to start it, it starts fine, but i can go into every gear smoothly without ever pressing the clutch. I also notice now that my front main seal on the tranny is leaking.
Could that oil be making the clutch not grab??
Could my input shaft be shot??
HELP!

Re: major transmission issue
ok well i pulled the tranny again today
when i have it sitting in my garage, i can turn the input shaft and hold the output shaft still, is that normal??
i would assume that it is not but i am unsure, anyone know?

Re: major transmission issue
is it in neutral cause in neutral it wont spin if memory serves corect in first gear you should have movement...
Re: major transmission issue
well it was doing it in neutral...
but when i shifted it to first gear or reverse, it does the exact same thing
In the car, i can go into every single gear smoothly without ever touching the clutch pedal
with the tranny out of the car i can spin the input shaft with it in gear and stop the output shaft with my hand.

Re: major transmission issue
Are you sure it is all the way in gear. Try turning the input shaft while shifting it into gear to make sure it's in all the way. With in in any gear, when you turn the input shaft the output shaft should also turn. The output shaft will turn at a different rate unless you are in 4th gear. You should not be able to turn the input shaft and hold the output shaft from turning. Sounds like you have a bad transmission.
