Gear Removal

Can someone please tell me how to get the gears out of a 10 bolt rear end. The entire rear end has been removed from the car. I want to swap my 2.73s for the 3.08s

Re: Gear Removal

what he's getting at is it's not a DIY job, it requires some special equptment (bearing press, dial gauge), and if it's not done right the rear will make noise and wear out quickly, because the shims have to be just right, on the pinion and on either side of the carrier, you could try to do it yourself, but most likely you wouln't like the results, and have to get it re-done, also, why are you going w/ 3.08 gears, 3.23 or 3.42 gears are better for street use, and 3.73 gears are good for street/strip use, especially W/ a 350, also when you do the change make sure you change out the speedo gears to compansate for the new rear gears

Re: Gear Removal

Lewandom has a valid point. It's really not even worth the trouble to swap from 2.73 to 3.08. You probably won't notice much difference between the two. 3.23 or 3.42 would be more worth it. I went from 2.73 to 3.42 in my car, and the difference in takeoff power was amazing.
