200-4R question

I looked at a TTA and the trans has some issues and wonder how serious it is.

Under 1/2 throttle it shifts fine
Above ~ 1/2 throttle it wont upshift
When cruising ~55mph and give approx enough throttle to drop into 2nd it goes all the way into 1st.

Im wondering if its a sticky valve that some "seafoam" or similar will unstick, a bad 2nd gear solenoid or if the trans needs a complete rebuild.

Thanks

anyone have any ideas????

Re: 200-4R question

Could be as simple as the TV cable not being adjusted correctly, but it doesn't sound like it.

When mine wouldn't shift out of 1st at half throttle or better - the 1st gear band was toast. 200-4R's had a **** poor pan design - under hard acceleration all the fluid rushes to the back and since the filter sucks from top (facing the valve body) it sucks air and cavitates the pump, which burns the bands and clutches.

If the car has some miles and has been driven like it should - you can bet it's rebuild time.

Re: 200-4R question

Try overfilling the transmission. We did this a lot on 2004R's. This will make sure that you do not pick up air. Add 3/4 quart and see what happens. If you are going to rebuild this transmission, I carry all the parts that are needed to do this right. This transmission is a "one of a kind", very rare! They are almost identical to the Gran Nationals. Do not let it out of your sight.
