TH350 Vs. 700r4. V. 284435358.0
Okay. Im sure you guys are sick of seeing these threads. But my car has been in the shop for the last 3 weeks (only been worked on 2 times though)
Had a 700r4 installed that was recently rebuilt (but bought it used). Wouldnt shift at all. So the second time they dropped the valve body and drilled a larger hole near the throttle valve and replaced a scratched up accumulator. It shifted then but only when you let up off the gas. Now theyre ordering a universal TV cable for me to see if it will shift better since it will have alot more adjustability in the cable. If this doesnt work Im going to think about going th350 or getting a rebuilt 700r4
Problem is I have no idea what the survivability of these 700r4's is. From what I see a stock 700r4 isnt guaranted for much more than 400hp. And yet it costs $650-$750 to have them rebuilt. On the other hand TH350's are very reliable and strong and are cheaper to rebuild. Not very hard to find a rebuilt transmission for $650 that can withstand 500+ hp.
My question is, besides gas mileage, are there any other cons to changing to a th350?
What will happen to my top speed (if there was no cutoff speed for the tbi of course)?
Which has better acceleration? I hear people shave off 1.0+ seconds at the track with a th350, is this true?
Im wanting to go carbureted and possibly rebuild a 350 or maybe even stroke out a 383 someday so Id like to kind of find something that will make me happy now and when/if I have a built up engine in there as well
Besides a B&M or Hurst kit and a 9" tail th350, what else would I need to do the swap? Would I need to modify anything?
A guy emailed me thats not far from here and says he has a long tail th350 in a pickup hed sell me for $125. Said I can run and drive the truck to test it. Anything to look for or extra parts to ask for if I buy it such as detent cable, vacuum line, etc?
