Mystery gearing question...

Before my gears went out i could get 1st gear to 40 at 5500rpms, 2nd to 60.. cruising i was at 2000ish at 60 in 5th. I also noticed that at 80 in 5th i was at 3000 rpms... 255/50/16 tires... The guy i bought the car off of said the differential had never been opened. I also checked the ring gear after they broke and it still had the BW on it. I dont remember the teeth count and its in the shop getting 3.73's put in so i cant check. It's an 89 formula, 305, T5, g92, n10, ws6.... wut is the gearing? it doesnt seem to match up with the 3.45 that my research has told me...

P.S. Speedometer was correct i know because of an 86mph ticket...
Tachometer isnt off as I also checked with a seperate tach when getting it timed.

Is it a 9" or 10-bolt? It might not be a 3.45, it might be lower or higher. Without the P/N of the ring gear the only way to know for sure is to count the teeth.

Re: Mystery gearing question...

9 bolts had 3.70s right? cause 3k rpm at 80 is not 3.45s gotta be higher then that. There are calculators that you can figure it out but i can't find one right now.

9 bolts could be had with 3.45s and 3.70s.
10 bolts had a 3.45 and a 3.73.

All 5 speed cars had at least a 3.4x so im gonna assume based on your rpm that you have 3.70s if its a 9 bolt and 3.73s if its a 10 bolt.
