9 bolt rear end help!

I am rebuilding this car and learning as i go, so hopefully you guys out there in cyberspace can help me out. I count 9 bolts on the rear end and when i turn the tire one revolution it doesnt even spin the rear end 3 times. im guessing there are 2.77 or 2.72 gears? Also i want to know what my optinions are. I dont want to get rid of the rear end because it is a 4 wheel disc posi. But i know i want a set of 3.73 or 4.11 gears put in but i was told i might not be able to with what i have now. Any help out there?

No and Yes
speed is only a mater of money how fast can you afford to go ...

you will need to upgrade to a nine bolt 3 series carrier 3.27 or higher than put
gears on that and hope that the posi cones are in good shape ...

look in our classifieds section - someone is always selling something the nine bolts are a little stronger than the GM 10 bolts but parts are VERY expensive

Re: 9 bolt rear end help!

2:77 is the correction ratio and without a 3-series 9-bolt carrier you option are...NONE. The only other 9-bolt ratios are 3:27,3:45,3:70 & 3:73 and that is it, also they all require a 3-series carrier. So if it is not broke, leave it alone.
