2.73 to 3.73 - Quick question.

Ok, I'm gonna change gears(to Richmond 3.73's RMG-4900461) right now until I can find a posi rear. They are hard to find and I'm getting impatient. I figured I would get a 3-series set of gears so I can use them in the posi rear I will eventually get, but what kind of spacer do I need to get them to fit in my 2-series carrier? Thanks.

Not sure on the spacer.

You can get a 2 series posi. Then, if you got 2 series gears you could use them right away.
You could also install a powertrax locker at any time without removing the gears or carrier. The powertrax doesn't care what series carrier you have.

Well, the reason I want to get a 3-series with a spacer is so I can use it right away. Then when I get a 3-series posi rear I can put the same gears in, but without the spacer. Eventually I want to get another rear(3-series posi) for strength reasons and it's cheaper. Maybe I can find one with disc brakes too.

I've seen spacers for 8.5 and 9 inch rears, but never a for a 7.5 inch rear. I'm sure somebody out there makes them. I usually stay away from used posi rear ends because they tend to be worn out, or almost worn out. 3 series isn't any stronger that 2 series. Your gears(3 or 2 series) will break before your 2 series carrier will. I also like installing gears once and only once. It seems as though no matter how perfect the gears mesh the second time, they aren't exactly the same as the first time and you will get a whine.
Good Luck.

I know that the 3-series isn't any stronger than the 2-series. I'm talking about in the future when I get a better posi rear. When I do it will be a 3-series with a 28 spline. That's where I was talking about more strength. I would also be able to swap the gears and not be stuck with 2-series gears and be screwed. The point I'm trying to make is taht I don't want to buy gears twice.
