Need help with a 700r4
I sold my buddy one of my 700r4's(out of an 88 iroc)which had been rebuilt about a year and a half ago. It worked fine when I pulled it out of my car. We finally got his car done and drove it for many short trips adding up to about 30 miles. We drove it one day when it was about 90 degrees and when the tranny got hot it started slipping, the more we drove the worse it got until it finally didn't move. When it idled in gear it made a grinding noise from the trans. The next day he tried to drive it just to see if it would do anything, and it worked until it got hot. By the way it is in a 89 firebird with a carbed 350, and it does not have the torque converter lockup hooked up. Any advise would be appreciated.
Check your line pressure. You should have at least 70 psi of pressure to hold the gears without slipping. Hopefully you haven't burned up the clutches, and don't drive it if it is slipping any at all cause once it starts it will spin right through those clutches believe me I have done it.
