Couple questions about my new rear help me out plz
Im picking it up saturday its a 10 bolt with 3.73 gears (i think) with discs, i called the guy up and hes like an hours drive from me so i asked him how it looks inside, he told me that the spider gears are a bit worn and he'd suggest replacing them in the next year and hes sending me some pics of it.
Me having a mild ocd i wanna clean it all up, paint it and fix it all at once, what will it take for me to replace the spider gears? Anything special i have to do? I also wanna check on the c-clips in it how hard will it be to replace those with newer thicker ones? im still learning rear ends but i can pick up on it fast if somebody would give me a crash course on it.
Finally, say i dont like the 3.73 ratio, how much would new gears be and how hard to install? I know its pretty sensitive as far as backlash and everything goes but i can learn lol

nope, checked it out today, 3.73:1
in any case he sent some pics and im planning on getting a new set of spider gears and a replacement ring and pinion and having them installed sooner or later, definitely is gonna be a piece of work for me but it seems like fun lol as long as the carrier itself is in good shape i should be fine right?? cuz 400 bucks for a new one right off the bat would suck

Why not run it like it is. It either works or it doesn't. I've never heard of gears just wearing out. They can break from too much torque but to just wear out and need replaced doesn't make much sence to me.

well to me buying a new rear and taking the time to change over to disk brakes and set it all up just to watch the internals bust is crazy but to each his own i guess. The posi carrier and ring gear are good but he still said i may wanna do the spider gears
Im gonna look at it after ive got it all cleaned up to see if i wanna chance it or not, my original plan for this thing was to get it, clean it up, paint it and replace anything that looks bad and get it so its a drop in no mess no headaches later thing, which includes checking out the calipers and buying a new set of rotors for it. Bottom line is if i dont feel comfortable with the way the gears look i wont like driving because im always gonna be afraid of something happening
