Wait, isn't that a crush seal (copper)? I believe that involves re-setting all the adjustments on the gears (backlash & etc)?

It's an easy fix you do not have to reset back lash or anything else.

You do have to replace the crush sleeve and make sure you torque it to exact specs. It is a lot of torque to get the pinion nut tightened back down and then you have to use a small torque wrench to test the turning resistance (in-lb torque wrench) but this can't be done with everything on the axles (rims, brakes, ect). Just make sure you get the pinion nut tightened down properly and replace the crush sleeve with a new one DO NOT re-use the old one. You might be able to pick up some good info in the Chilton or Haynes manual about these steps. Also make sure you don't scratch the yoke surface when you take it out or put it in. Wrap it in a old towel or something to prevent it from getting scratched or nicked...if it does this will also cause leaks if its where the seal mates to the yoke.
