I finally got a 3rd gen! :woot:

Unfortunately the trans is shot. The car is an '87 Firebird with a non-original 1st gen carbed SBC 350/350 combo. I know a guy who offered me a rebuilt TH400 and converter for $100.

I printed off the sticky about the parts necessary and I did some searching on this site about it, but all I could find was info about TPI SB's. Are there any special considerations for a Gen 1 block 400 swap?

I know I need a custom DS and I should run the 350 converter but what what else would you suggest?

 

a tpi smallblock is a gen1 smallblock. not sure what you mean by non-original 1st gen carbed 350. it could be the factory block in it just have been converted to carb instead of tpi.

 

The car was originally a 2.8L V6 meaning it was not original to the car. I think the 350 came out of a truck. In any case I walked away from the car because the car would not start when I got there. I test drove the car a last week and it ran and drove. Now it won't even turn over. The seller went from sweet as sugar to mean as a hornet real fast after that.

So I am still on the lookout for a 3rd gen project. Thank you though.
