The interlock cable
The interlock cable
lm guessing thats the name for it. lts not the selector cable, but the other. When l got this car you could move the selector w/o the car being on and the key out and off. So l did some investigating and found that cable to be off the selector arm. l couldnt get it to connect w/ it in the "retracted" (?) mode. So l flipped the key on (mind you, there is no battery in this car at the moment) and the cable was slack, so l connected it, and ran the shifter from 1st to park a couple of times, to see if it would seat. When l tried to turn the ignition to off, it wouldnt do it. lt stayed in the ACC position. Right now that isnt a problem, but in the future, once l get it running, this could be a problem (All night radio =) ).
Anybody ever dealt w/ this problem?
Thanks

What year/model/transmission are you dealing with?
I found that the '82 and '86 pieces do not interchange. The '82 was a TH200, the '86 is a TH700R4. I just left it off, which is nice at the track since I don't have to worry about the position of the ignition switch when rolling through the staging lanes.
I have a steering wheel club for the times I need to park it for prolonged times other than in the garage.

Why not leave it off?
If you are worried about someone pushing your car away.... when you park your car just turn the wheels as far as you can and turn the key off. That way it will only go in circles
As long as the nuetral switch is still plugged up it won't start in any other gear besides park and nuetral.Just remember to always set your parking brake.

With the cable unhooked, how far off is the tang on the shifter? Know what I mean? Line up the cable eyelet and the shifter tang, and see at what point they don't match up.
