6-speed/5-speed
6-speed/5-speed
I'm trying to decide whether or not to swap to a six-speed trans when I replace the clutch in my '83Z next week, or just just buy a used '90-'92 WC 5-speed and rebuild it to replace the original 5-speed.
I have a 350 with only about 300HP and I don't race or 'power shift' at all--just wind it out sometimes! So, what costs am I looking at and what do you recommend?
Thanks, DC

To put in the six speed from a fourth gen. your looking at about 1500-1700. You seem pretty content with your 5-speed and a new rebuilt one should handle what you've got so it's more a matter of preference. If you want better gears, then go with the six, but if you're just gonna stay the same then keep the 5-speed. That's my opinion atleast.

I had a v-6 2.8L 145HP with the 5 speed. And well It didnt work out to well The tranny was like butter. I now have a 327 in the car and went with a richmond six speed, which I am happy with. Although it is rather pricy. It cost almost 3000 and with a T-56 would run about 1800 through summit. Now I realize the V-6 t-5 is weaker than the V-8 t-5 but your also putting out more power in the V-8 so in comparision they are like the same. Now to chose If you don't get on it much and only floor it once in a while go with the T-5 rebuild but if you like to push your car to its limits get at least the T-56 6 speed. In the long run it will save you in repairs. But this is just my opinion. Hope this helps some.
