I'm confused, what is a carrier? What is the difference between series 2, 3 . . . .
What years had what rearends? Axles?

the carrier is the "thing" the ring gear bolts to. i believe thirdgens used 26 spline axles before 88 in 88 they went to 28 spline axles. i believe the 2 series carrier is for 3:08 and numerically lower ratios and the 3 series is for 3:23 and numerically higher ratios.

The reason they use different carriers is because when going to lower gear ratios, the size of the teeth change. Instead of having a really thick gear to keep the ring teeth closer to the pinion, they created a different carrier that moves the whole ring gear closer. 2 and 3 series carriers are the most common. Our little 7.5 diffs don't have a 4 series but diffs like a 12 bolt have a 4 series carrier for 3.90 to 6.14 gears

383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas
454 Big Block buildup now in progress for the 2001 racing season
Best results before the 383 blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10
Altitude corrected rear wheel HP based on power to weight ratio: 476.5
Best 60 foot: 1.662
Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!
