New 700r4 or TH350???
Like many on here, my 3rd and 4th gear are gone on my current '84 700r4. I am planning on buying a new one and need to decide whether to purchase another 700 or move to the th350. I am not a mechanic and the mechanics that I have talked to tell me to make the move to the 350. Will this bolt right up to my 305 sbc? I know that the 350 does not have overdrive, but I work from home and this is not a daily driver. I only drive it for fun. I still have the stock rearend, BW 9 bolt. Not positive on the gears, 2.77 maybe?? I have done some engine mods, but have no idea about the HP. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

The 350 1s going to be a good bit cheaper, and if you dont do much highway driving I`d go with the 350.Are you going to get a higher stall converter? My car isnt my daily driver but I still do a lot of highway miles.(gets better mileage than my truck)Other wise I would have gone th350 or 400.Yes will bolt up to the engine. Not sure about the driveshaft.IMO,you cant beat the prices of even the built th350 compared to a built 700,t-5,or stock t56.

Thanks for the info. It does look more and more like the th350. Jegs has one with a converter for about $1000. I think it is a TCI kit. I may end up going with that option. Thanks!

There are a couple of third gen board members who have trans shops. They both have very good reputations for outstanding products and service.Use the search feature for Performabuilt and pro form built transmissions or something.I`d give them a shot.Wish I had bought mine from them instead of a in town rebuild but I couldnt afford them at the time.
Wait that 2nd ones not right Cat remember it right now,i`ll try and find it.Maybe someone else will cime in.BTW welcome to TGO.
Just remembered PROBUILT AUTOMATICS,sorry.

if you get a th350 with a 9" tail shaft housing your stock driveshaft will work.
