torque converters?

i knew this guy with an 81 camaro that had an automatic tranny but was shifting like a manual. 1st to 3rd had no lag in between shifts and down shifting was instant. would this be a high stall torque converter.

wat tranny upgrades would i need to make this work

Re: torque converters?

The way it shifted was controlled by the shift kit i would assume he had.

A stall will allow you to engine to stay higher in the rpms between shifts, allowing it to stay in the best powerband for your setup, which makes you go faster
