Who has a clutch switch that looks like this?

What car did this come on? Camaro? Or Firebird? Does it matter? It looks to me like my hush panel might not fit back up in place since the back of this switch sticks down so low. Anyone have this same switch in a Firebird?

Edited for spelling!

Yup, that's it. I have that exact thing in my 83 Z28 except mine's got a black shaft. In fact, it just broke the other day...went out to start the car at lunch, no starter; took about 2 more mashes of the pedal before I noticed I wasn't hearing the little noise it makes. Damn useless POS, it broke with only about 305,000 miles on it. What a flimsy pile of trash. I had to put a jumper in the plug. Imagine that! The car is only 16 years old with only 300k miles, and I'm already having to bypass electrical components.

If yours doesn't fit and you don't want it any more I'll take it.

Sure, I could remove the switch and jumper the plug. Don't wanna though.

So, then this is an early type switch? Is it Camaro specific (I am wondering)? Is the hush panel on a Camaro the same as a Firebird? My GM parts illustration book for Firebird shows an entirely different switch and bracket. That is what has me concerned right now.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hmmmm... don't know about the Firebird version at all, if it's different or not. The hush panels I am sure are different though.

The one in my car came out of a 84 or 85 Z28, from when I swapped a hydraulic setup into the car. The hush panel has a bunch of clearance to it in the Camaro. I wouldn't think that GM would change such a simple basic invisible functional thing between the product lines, but you never know.

Ah. A great mystery is solved. I have the connection for the safety switch but I only I had the one that mounts on the back of the pedal which had connections that didn't fit at all and had me rather confused. I searched all local autoparts stores and no one had one with another connector. I'm guessing it was year dependant and probably the majority of the cars were made with the second style which is why it made GMs list. The haynes manual which has it's first 13 or so chapters written for the 82 - 84 model years show your style switch

Joking? about what?

That really happened. The car really only has that few miles on it so I wouldn't think it's time for stuff like that to wear out. It POd me kind of severely because I couldn't go to lunch and then had to get my wife to pick me up after work and give me a ride back with a 7mm and 11mm socket.

Would I joke about something serious like that?

I'll trade you one except you'd need to trade the whole pedal assembly because the bracket for the switch is rivited on and there is a bar welded on the pedal to activate the switch. Or if someone could find a place that sells them. I've tried Advanced and Autozone with no luck.

Tom, I forgot to let ya know the padal set I picked up this week has that old style funky switch too. So now I understand how it works and adjusts. Too bad I found that particular set first. Because I found a new style set later, but less than 1 hr from closing time, so I only grabbed the new style Neutral Safety switch and it's connector just as a spare for my other set. 8^)

Lon, are you going into business as a used parts dealer? Dang, but you have brought home so much stuff lately. Why do you need 3 pedal sets?

Nope, I needed a pedal set to go with the spare WC-T5 I have to sell. I would have preferred a new style pedal assy though. I guess I should have surveyed the yard first to take inventory rather than grabbing the first one I saw. I did get smart and dropped the steering column to make pulling the pedal assy easier though. I also got the two master cylinder mounting brackets I needed along with the reservoir/slave cylinder assy's.

Hmmm... Can you convert to the different style switch? I have the style pictured in the photo and quite frankly it keeps hanging up on the fuse box; plus I don't know if the '91 dash I'm putting in will clear it.
