what stall speed?

I have a 355 with a 700 holley 4777 DP and a single plane intake. my cams powerband is 2200 to 5800. My engines powerband is 2500 to id say 8500 rpms. i have a turbo350 trans with a mild shift kit and my car weighs about 3400 lbs. Is 3000 an rpm range that i would want to put my stall at? looking for a solid launch and more seat of the pants acceleration as well as maintaining streetability.

Re: what stall speed?

The internals of my engine can easily go to 8000 rpm but I shift at 7400 rpm because that's where the camshaft stops making power.

What's the advertised duration of the camshaft. That's what's going to determine the best stall speed no matter what else you've done to the engine or car.

Re: what stall speed?

My advertised duration is 270. I was exxaggerating before. My engine probably quits making power about 6200 or so. I know that when you put a stall into a light vehicle versus a heavy one they act completely different as they are under different loads. I just wondering how to determine the stall speed that would be best for my application. So I gave you all the info I could.

Re: what stall speed?

270 isn't much of a performance camshaft. I'd recommend a stall speed somewhere in the 2400-2600 range which is right where your camshaft starts to make power.

Re: what stall speed?

yes but with the weight of my vehicle, CLV's (converter load variables) come into play and my "2600" stall becomes loaded around 2000. i want to run a high enough stall to make up for the lowered pulling range of the converter due to weight. so can i get away with a 3000 stall?
