T-5 Worth it???

I have been reading a bit about the T-5 because I am looking into doing a auto-manual swap. It seems all the info that Im reading is telling me that the T-5 cant handle power. I only plan on building a mild 350 (300-350 hp). Is a T-5 able to hold that power with an aftermarket clutch. I just seem to be getting conflicting information. Thanks

Re: T-5 Worth it???

the clutch is not the issue. the problem is that the case is small and weak, it flexes too much and that causes failure.

The trans can survive just fine behind some power, it just depends on how you drive the car. If you use the clutch, no powershifting, high rpm clutch dumping/shifting, it will be fine. And 3rd gear is the main weakspot, it usually fails in 3rd.

If you are looking to do the swap, be all means do it. It was the best mod ive ever done to my car. The t5 will last if you take care of it, then, down the road, when you want more power, its just a matter of changing out the trans, and some swap parts, for something better.

Re: T-5 Worth it???

Thanks. So the verdict is that under normal driving conditions and the odd run down the strip it should hold up. Powershifting, especially into third gear is a big no-no
