T-5 Rebuild

I have a T-5 iscored from a guy i know just rebuilt with only 1K on it, the only problem is that the third gear counter shaft is wiped, i need to replace the whole counter shaft and i want to replace the third gear on the main shaft just to insure but it looks okay, is this easy to raplce, (counter cluster and third on the main) or should i let a tranny shop handle it. im not goign to be willing to spend more then 300 bucks to get it fixed, becouse i only paid 100 for the tranny, any help?

The gears alone are close to $300. You'll also need a small parts kit which has the bearings and all that.

I don't know your skill level or what you intend to use the car for; but if you have never built a manual trans before, a T-5 isn't a good first project. Replacing the counter gear requires complete disassembly of the transmission.

I think you'd do better to buy another trans rather than rebuilding this one, especially if it's a 6-cylinder one or an early model.

I havent done T-5/s before mostly front wheel drive and 4 speeds are the only rebuilds i have done, i dont care about rebuilding it myself, thats no problem. the trans is an 89 WC and it was in an original 5 speed car, v-8, where can i find the parts for it? mostly the counter sluster and the third gear on the main shaft
