T/V cable or kickdown?

Which do I have on my car it was originally a 1983 CFI Auto 700R-4. I switched to a carb and have no idea how to hook up the linkage. The guy at Autozone told me that the tranny cable connects to the bottom of the carb linkage but the one in the car does not move in and out it just ahs a little ball type end on it. What does the cable do? What does it connect to? Could I drive the car without it hooked up and manually shift it?

Thanks
Shawn

first off, please dont drive the car, with no TV cable hooked up, it will smoke the transmission. that controls the line pressure and the amount of fluid that runs through the tranny, if you drive it without it hooked up, there will not be enough fluid pressure. my next question is, what is CFI? i have heard of it, but dont know what it is, is it like a throttle body or something? if it was throttle body, you are going to have to get a kickdown cable(TV cable) from a vehicle that had a 700R4 and a carb. i know some chevy trucks had that in the mid 80's. also, you will have to get a throttle bracket, depending on what carb you are using, it maybe easier to get an adjustable one, Auto Zoo sells them for about 14 bucks, and they work very well, i have one. hope this helps some.

CFI stands for Cross-Fire Injection it was a "smart" Cross-Ram setup (the dual carb setup from the 60's). But it had so many problems with things like venturi's freezing up and hood louvers popping open while going to a car wash. Everyone who knows about it always says Oh yeah that set-up was the worst.
