Expierence with junkyard flywheels
Expierence with junkyard flywheels
Well, the time as finally come. My dad's clutch started to chatter in his jeep (after 40k miles of using the clutch like a brake at red lights, who'd of guessed???). What are your guy's expierences with junkyard flywheels? How much did you pick it up for? How did it turn out?
I have really "no" fear of junkyard flywheels except of the car had the flywheel turned then it was junked. I know you can see the obvious blue/brown/black spots (mine was all three colors!!) but I've often wondered what would happen if someone turned a blued flywheel then drove the car into the wreckers.
Thanks

They're about as good as any other used flywheels. I'd guess you have about a 3 in 4 chance of getting a good resurfaceable one; not the greatest odds, but not hopeless either. Maybe if you take what you get to an off-road place or something like that, that specializes in Jeep, they could tell you if the one you get is too thin before you spend the money and effort to find out the hard way. Or, just compare it ot what you've got, and if it's as thick or thicker, it's probably OK.
Chevy flywheels have a bevel around the outside edge, that is supposed to serve as the indicator for being worn out. If it has to be turned past the bevel then it's no good. Maybe Jeep has the same sort of thing, I'm not sure.
