Install 3.73's or buy new rear end?

I currently have 2.73s now and want to upgrade to 3.73s. My car is mostly stock. I know I will drop a 350 engine this summer. My questions is: should I stay with my stock rear-end and just install 3.73s or should I invest in a new (stronger)rear-end w/3.73s? Or is the stock rear-end strong enough to support 400hp? I need some advice. Thanks.

What do you plan on using the car for? Are you going to run slicks? If money is no object, install a ford 9 inch and never worry about it again. HP doesn't matter, it's the torque you need to worry about. Is this 400HP 350 going to be modded TPI or carb. 5sp or Auto? NOS? superchaged? The torque output of a 350 at the 400 HP level will be OK in a street car with street tires. Add slicks and numerous trips to the track and you will reduce the life of that rear end.

I plan on using the car for street & strip...daily driver. The engine will be carb. Auto, no NOS, supercharged (yes). If I use a ford 9 inch, will my stock rims fix?

Since you have a 92 Camaro, I think your best bet would be to go to www.slponline.com and get their $99 Torsen Posi unit, and 3.73 gears. The Torsen is a 3-series carrier, and its a better unit than whats in your car now. If you want it even stronger, get the Heavy Duty Torsen for $299.

The 9 inch will be modified to fit your car and can be made to work with your stock wheels. Not sure where you could go and buy a bolt-in 9 inch, all the ones I've seen have been custom built. With that kind of power, if you keep you stock rearend, you might want to get the HD torsen rear-end. Or install a powertrax locker.
