Richmond 6 speed... anyone know anything?
Hey,
I am planning to swap a 350 into my car sooner or later and I want to have a 6 speed behind it.
What would take less fabrication/hassle to install? The GM T-56 (off of an earlier model f-body) or a Richmond?
What is involved in either swap....
Thanks!,
Daniel

i am in the process of getting all the parts that i need for my swap into the car for a t-56. from what ive read it looks as if the t-56 is easier to swap in becasue of all the aftermarket parts availiable , like the crossmembers/torque arms and other stuff. plus it cost less the buy to begin with.

I have a richmond 6 speed and IMO I think its just a much better tranny and I'm very happy with it. I did go the hard route and bought the regular richmond which I had to get a tranny mount bracket made and a drive shaft 3 inches longer but that is because the engine I dropped in there already had a 10 spline cluth brand new and I wanted to save money. not needing to buy a new clutch and the 10 spine tanny is a few hundred dollars cheaper. However they do make a direct swap in richmond 6 speed for a 3rd gen firebird and corvettes. By the instuctions they said they are supposed to go right in. The only thing you will need is a yoke off a drive shaft from a Turbo 400. And maybe a new speedo driven gear, the richmond uses a 8 tooth drive gear as opposed to a GM 7 tooth. Other than that its easy and a much more strong tranny. Rated at 450 ft.lbs. of torque
