Which flywheel

Hey there all...

I know this is a bit off the beaten path, but I wanted to give it a shot. I'm building a 383 stroker motor for my 79 Z28. It's currently has a TH350 in it. In the stroker motor kit I'm getting, they are sending me the kit balanced with a harmonic balancer and auto flexplate. To my understanding this kit is EXTERNALLY balanced like a small block 400.

Now, I want to change my TH350 to a 4 speed (going into the 79 Z28). What flywheel do I get? Will I need to get a special flywheel for it? or would I have to have the whole kit balanced again?!

I'm trying to get all this info prior to me ordering the kit. I was hoping to put in the original Z28 11" flywheel & clutch assy (new, of course), but I know none of these cars came with a SB 400, so I don't know what flywheel to use.

Someone please help me if possible. I'm going to call the people selling the kit (Powerhouse in CA), but I don't want to have to buy a brand new flywheel from them if I don't have to.

Thanks all and cya on the streets...

The 454 flywheel is identical to the 400. So you could lok for a junk one of those.

Centerforce and most of the other people like that can supply the flywheel you need.

You could also take a regular 168-tooth flywheel to a balancing shop and have it "unbalanced" to the stock 400 spec.

There are many ways to get the right thing. In my 83, I had a regular 305 HO flywheel (the light one) "unbalanced" to match my 400, and the whole deal balanced as an assembly.
