I've got the 700r4 bluuuues.

Hey gang, my first post.

Anyhow. Over the past couple of weeks, around work and kids' schedules. I swapped out the 305 for a 350 in my 84 TA. The 350 has an Edelbrock performer intake and 600 carb with electric choke. Not sure about the engine, it was a junk yard scrapper. Needed something asap as 305 blew, and this is my daily driver.

Anyhow, after engine swap, trannys not shifting properly. I've adjusted the TV cable several times to no avail. Maybe its not adjusting correctly. I push in the release button, push the tubing all the way back flush with the houseing (i know i know, not technically termed inclined), then I released the button and (using carb) open it to WOT. I noticed the tubing pulled out about 1/8 - 1/4 of an inch, but didn't 'rachet out' as I read everybody else explaining it.

Fluid level is fine in it. When changing the engine, I cleaned the tranny up while it was out of the car. And while I was cleaning it, I removed the TV cable from the transmission (dont ask, i'm not sure why i did now). anyhow, i put it back on just as it had come off.

When I start the car, there is a whinning sound coming from the transmission. (kinda sounds like when you're alternator belt is loose and it whines) when the tranny is cold the whining is really really loud, and when it warms up, it quits.

Going down the road at about 1/4 pedal down, it will shift at around 3500 to 4000 into second, and its a looooong shift into it.. feels dragged out. Then not two to three seconds later it slams into 3rd gear, at around 2500 to 3000. And then from there it seems to be fine.

At WOT, it'll shoot right up to 6000rpm but won't shift into second until I left off the gas. Everyone I've spoken to has mentioned that it sounded like TV cable needs adjusted. I'm thinking about taking it to a shop to be adjusted, but before I do, I thought I'd ask here for opinions on the problem.

thanks in advance

I'm no expert by far but i did have close to the same problem when i switched from TBI to Carb and the TV cable wasnt racheting. What i did was pull the cable lightly till it stopped and hooked it up. That was when it did the crazy shift stuff. Then i went back and pulled the ratchet back about a 1/4 of an inch and locked it myself by pushing the lock ring up and it shifts perfect, right were i want it to. Course my shift points are before your with a 305. About 4500 for all gears at WOT. Hope this helps.
