What should i do???
my trans just recently went out in my 92 z 5.7tpi. its the stock 700r4. what i have planned for the winter is a mini ram intake large cam aluminum heads and bigger stall. in the next 6 months i plan to put that whole top end on my 383 w/t 10:5:1 compression. should i A) rebuild my stock 700r4 and make it bullit proof B) go to a th400 or C) go all out and do a t56 swap.(is it worth the money and how much work is involved?) please someone give me second opinion my brain hurts!

Re: What should i do???
it is really up to you. i just put a new rebuilt 700r4 in my camaro. but if this one junks i am going for the t-5 swap. It is pretty simple if you have a junk yard around. all you need to do is pull the tranny the clutch pedal assy, resevoir for the clutch if its hydralyic and do lil fab work near the auto shifter so u can shift gears and done. but t-56 will be lil more to it. i think there is a link on that on what to do. hope you find what u want to do. if u t-5 which u didn't mention would be simple job.

Re: What should i do???
thanks berlin305 for your opinion. i did think about the t5 swap but from what i heard from fellow members here is that the t5 can't hold up to much power, and the 383 i have has to make at least 400 horse. but it is something to keep in mind if i could find a solid set up to handle the power. i don't want to waste money on something thats not going to hold up for long.
thanks again. -tom

The TH400 really has few if any advantages, unless you already have a well-built one on hand. www.700r4.com offers their level 3 rated to 620 ft-lbs for like $1600 outright.
If you're wanting a strong manual for cheap, and don't mind a custom swap, there's the Tremec 3650, you can get 'em new for $700, and they'll survive 460 rwtq on slicks in a 3500+ pound car. These are takeouts from new Mustang GTs, and the ratios are 3.38/2.00/1.32/1.00/0.67
----------
Best of all, they use hydraulic clutch release, and you can use the shifter for an '03-04 Mustang

Re: What should i do???
A t56 swap isn't that hard to do. You have to cut a hole in the tunnel and mount the master cylinder other than that it's pretty much a bolt in deal. They are strong transmission and it gives you a nice wide gear spread 2.66 to .60 so you can run 4.11s or 4.56s in the rear and still have low rpms to cruise on the highway. Also the transmissions aren't that expenive any more. I'm selling one for 1,000 with the bell housing and slave. So that's my 2 cents.

Will36 typoed. With the 2.66:1 first you have a 0.50:1 sixth. If you use the retrofit T56 designed to go in these cars, you get a 2.97:1 first and a 0.62:1 sixth.
