Torque Arm
Hi all,
I just replaced my T-5 tranny last night in my bird. A 4-speed manual from a newer T/A now resides underneith. I knew the T-5 was longer than the 4-speed, but I thought it was ok since I had a longer driveshaft off an automaic and it fit just fine. Seems I forgot about the torque arm. The 4-speed dident have the torque arm bracket on it, the T-5 torque arm bracket wont fit, and even if it did it would be to short to reach the torque arm itself. So my questions to the group are now:
1. Would a torque arm bracket from a 4 speed work correctly... more percisely are all the torque arms on these cars the same length? or are there diffrent sizes depending on wich tranny the car has?
2. Would a torque arm bracket off an automatic fit the 4-speed? (incase I have to go pull it off in a junk yard)
3. As a very last option would it be wise to connect the torque arm to the underside of the transmission "hump" (car body) by using spacers and bolts?
4. Does anyone live near Nebraska and want a T-5 tranny / bellhousing for free? It shifts ok in all gears but when you go "racing" it's easy to miss 3rd gear and over rev. I just dont like the internal shifter of the T-5 or the feel of it, and this is why it got replaced.
Many Thanks in advance,
Andrew

E-mail Steve Spohn...
His torque arms are awesome and are well worth the price you pay.
His torque arm also bolt up to the transmission crossmember, which would cure your problem.....

What newer T/A came with a 4sp manual? 82 is the only year for a 4 speed manual in a third-gen. A custom bracket hooked to the floor pan might work OK. I would try a custom bracket that hooks to the crossmember if you don't want a spohn torque arm.
Which model of 4 speed is it?

Hey, thanks for the help. Actually when I got my parts car years ago, this 4-speed was an additional bonus. The guy asked me if I wanted it so he could clear out his garage. He went on to say that the tranny was out of a newer T/A, the parts car was an automatic.
I identified the tranny as a T-10 ? Borg Warner 83mm. It has two shift levers on the side, and the reverse lever is on the tailshaft portion. Everything bolts up correctly, and there is 3 mounting points for the Torque Arm bracket. Anyone have a torque arm bracket for a four speed that they'd want to sell?
Thanks 4 your help,
Andrew
